Conducting Polymers for Flexible and Wearable Electronics

主講人 : Prof. Jianyong Ouyang

High conductivity, high mechanical flexibility/stretchabbility and even self adhesiveness are required for conductors in the areas of flexible and wearable electronics. However, conventional conductors like  ls and inorganic semiconductors have very limited flexibility and stretchability, and they are not self-adhesive. Conducting polymers like PEDOT:PSS can have high mechanical flexibility, but they have limited stretchability and they are not self-adhesive. Here, Reporter will present some of our results on developing highly conductive, highly stretchable and self-adhesive conducting polymers. Reporter also demonstrated their applications, including flexible transparent electrodes of optoelectronic devices like organic solar cells and perovskite solar cells, compliant dry electrodes of soft robots and dry electrodes for the detection of epidermal biopotential signals including electrocardiogram (ECG), electromyogram (EMG) and electroencephalogram (EEG). Because they can always form conformal contact to skin and detect high-quality biopotential signals even during body movement, they can be used for continuous healthcare monitoring for long terms.

主講人簡介:

Prof. Ouyang received his PhD, master and bachelor degrees from the Institute for Molecular Science in Japan, Institute of Chemistry of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Tsinghua University in Beijing, respectively. He is currently a professor at the Department of Materials Science & Engineering, National University of Singapore. His research interests include flexible electronics and energy materials and devices. He invented the first polymer/nanoparticle memristor (2004), the first hybrid ionic/electronic thermoelectric converter (2020), the first adhesive intrinsically conducting polymers (2020), and topographic scanning electron microscopy (SEM) (2024), demonstrated the first application of flexible strain sensors for food processing monitoring (2021), observed the ductilization of polymers for the first time (2022), and continually reported world-record conductivities and thermoelectric properties of solution-processable conducting polymers and world-record thermoelectric properties of ionic conductors.
